Etna : with its 3,342 meters, it is the largest active volcano in Europe. Morphologically, it is a gigantic mass that occupies a large area of the eastern part of the island of Sicily. At the moment it has an effusive activity of strombolian type. Its physical geography is one of the most interesting in the world.
Stromboli : one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The island is known mainly for the Stromboli volcano that rises 924m above sea level, and whose depth on the seabed exceeds 2,200m. It was from its active craters that Jules Verne’s characters in Journey to the Center of the Earth emerged and it was here that the love between Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rosellini was consolidated during the shooting of the film named after the island. A geological feature of the volcano is the Sciara del Fuoco, a large channel-shaped depression, generated in the last 13,000 years by several collapses on the northwest face of the cone. By its solidified margins, as if it were a river, the blocks of lava and fire descend to the sea after each explosion.
Vulcano : The Volcano of the Origins. The word volcano is derived from Vulcano stratovolcano in the Aeolian Islands in Italy. According to Roman mythology was the god of fire and volcanoes Vulcanus had his forge here. Vulcan was the son of Jupiter and Juno and husband of Venus. He was the forger of iron and creator of weapons and armor for gods and heroes. It was called Thermessa the hot, Therásia, hot land, and Hiera, the sacred forge of Hephaestus (Greek mythology) where the Cyclops forged the thunderbolts for Jupiter.
